Abstract

The research addresses the changes in the world of work due to the rise of digital platforms such as Uber and iFood, which have introduced an unregulated model that has been highly criticized for its contradictions. The aim of the study is to explore the current state of this work model and investigate whether there are alternatives that provide greater protection for workers. The methodology used is inductive, analyzing experiences and data to build a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The study highlights that while the platform model offers flexibility and autonomy, it also presents significant challenges, such as the lack of minimum wage guarantees and job security. To address these issues, the article discusses the Fairwork project, which proposes principles to ensure fairer work, including adequate pay, safety, transparency, participation in decision-making, and freedom of association. The results show that the platforms analyzed in Brazil are still far from meeting these standards, underscoring the need for regulation and public policies that balance flexibility and security in the digital work environment.
