Abstract

This work aims to publicize the final results of a scientific initiation cycle carried out in 2023-2024, financed by CNPq, which aimed to carry out a systematic study on frequently identified violent phenomena, mainly in the urban social field of contemporary Brazilian society, here configured in the notions of private revenge, vigilantism and, mainly, lynchings. These phenomena, understood as types of violence carried out in groups, reflect larger issues that demonstrate constitutional ineffectiveness, the social vulnerability of vulnerable groups, the discredit in the institutions of the Justice System and in criminal processing and the promotion of a punitive and hateful culture increasingly present in everyday social life. The article seeks to make a contribution to the specialized literature for understanding the lynchings of vulnerable groups, innovating through the choice of criteria for analysis, namely, gender inequality, in line with the work plan exposed here that seeks to relate the phenomenon of lynchings with the profiles, logics and intersectionalities that surround the gender group chosen as the object of study. Through qualitative-quantitative research and the use of techniques such as bibliographical research and the collection of data and cases that occurred in Brazil, we sought to systematize profiles considering intersectionalities, as well as the different logics, arrangements and rationalities that support lynching practices. of gender and legitimize the non-recognition of lynched women as a life subject to mourning, considering the intense underreporting, the sexist structures of the justice system and the peculiarities of the phenomenon in relation to other violence practiced and normalized against women.
