Abstract

The right to health is currently clearly institutionalized in the current Brazilian Constitution. This was a significant advance and needs to be highlighted. However, this right still faces a significant set of challenges in its implementation in practically all regions of the country. This situation is even more evident in the northern region of Brazil. Thus, this research is concerned with the topic and asks whether cooperativism can contribute to effective access to this important social right.  The central thesis of the work is positive and has as a direct reference the successful experience built at Hospital Cooperar de Vilhena, in the State of Rondônia. Thus, it demonstrates how an initiative with the credit cooperative Sicoob Credisul was fundamental for promoting access and equity in the provision of health services in the south of the State of Rondônia. The research method used was hypothetical-deductive and the research technique was bibliographical research, with reading texts and available data.
