Abstract

The smoke crisis that has been plaguing Amazonas and other regions of the Amazon is the result of a combination of factors such as deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, and climate change. This article primarily focuses on the severe impacts of this crisis on the right to health of local populations. Continuous exposure to smoke has led to a growing and alarming increase in respiratory problems, especially among children and the elderly, overwhelming the healthcare system and endangering the lives of thousands of people. In addition to respiratory diseases, air pollution has been linked to cardiovascular complications and other chronic health issues. The article explores the responses that have been implemented by governments, institutions such as the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Public Defender's Office, as well as local community actions aimed at mitigating these impacts. It also discusses sustainable solutions that can help reduce long-term effects, such as promoting agricultural practices that minimize burning and implementing policies that encourage forest conservation. The article concludes that protecting the right to health in the Amazon requires an integrated approach that combines public health actions with ongoing environmental conservation efforts.
