Abstract

This study aims to understand the social function of the Hip-Hop movement and its applicability in Legal Education. It is a qualitative research whose literature review is grounded in theses, dissertations, scientific articles, and literary works from various authors and knowledge areas that discuss Hip-Hop culture and its knowledge, as well as many academic productions in the field of Legal Education. Additionally, it seeks to analyze the results of an action research involving students from a Law undergraduate program at a public university in the southern part of the country. This research includes conducting educational workshops at a center that attends youth in situation of social vulnerability living in peripheral neighborhoods in Rio Grande do Sul. These workshops, based on elements of Urban Art and its history, include practical poetry activities and are part of university extension actions. Thus, the study aims to provide an overview of the educational nature of Street Culture and its potential in addressing contemporary issues in the field of Law. Furthermore, this proposal reflects on the need for innovation and the use of new methodologies centered on learners for teaching law, through more flexible communication and alternative approaches (such as the Arts), to engage with marginalized youth about their right awareness-raising.
