Abstract

Critical Environmental Education (CEE) emerges as a fundamental pillar in the formation of conscious and engaged citizens with sustainability. This article explores the need to integrate CEE in a critical and participatory way into the school context, promoting awareness and transformative action among students. CEE aims to develop a deep understanding of the interrelationships between social, economic, and environmental dimensions, stimulating critical thinking and the proposition of solutions to environmental problems. The research presents a detailed literature review on the implementation of CEE in basic education, discussing active methodologies such as interdisciplinary projects, debates, case studies, and access to legal knowledge as a way to materialize constitutional rights. The continuous training of teachers is also emphasized as a crucial element for the success of CEE, as they mediate educational processes and inspire students to become agents of change. The results indicate that CEE, when well implemented, empowers students to face the environmental challenges of the 21st century and contribute to a more sustainable future.
