Abstract

This article aims to weave a reading of the short story "The Church of the Devil", by Machado de Assis, based on the reflections of Tercio Sampaio FERRAZ JUNIOR on the theme of legal pragmatics. To this end, it resumes the importance of interdisciplinarity, differentiates the zetetic and dogmatic approaches to the legal phenomenon, as well as reflects on the power relations existing between authority and subject within society that are indispensable to obtain the commitment and obedience to the law. In view of the complexity of society and the communicational relations between individuals, it points to the possible situations of confirmation, denial and disconfirmation of the legal norm and how a zetetic and interdisciplinary approach can help in a more adequate understanding of the law.
