Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the Academia Ambiental project as a non-formal Environmental Education activity in Manaus, Amazonas, promoted in the Dr. Daisaku Ikeda Private Natural Heritage Reserve by the Soka Amazônia Institute, as well as its relevant role in promoting sustainability and construction of global citizenship in favor of a healthy and ecologically balanced environment. This is a project designed by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, founder of the Institute, developed in the area of the aforementioned natural reserve, which combines classes about fauna, flora, geological constitution, relief, hydrological characteristics of Amazonian rivers, especially rivers Negro and Solimões, which meet at the bottom of the reserve in the exuberant Meeting of the Waters, and the walk along interpretive trails for observation, direct contact with nature and learning the contents of the class held in the open air. The research aims to analyze whether the project is in accordance with the principles, objectives and guidelines of constitutional and infra-constitutional legislation on environmental education and its social relevance. The case study modality was used, applying the deductive method, reconciling the collection of bibliographical, normative, historical and doctrinal data with the information obtained during on-site visits; regarding the purposes, the research is understood as qualitative. It was concluded that the Environmental Academy project is in harmony with legal standards in environmental educational matters, as well as having social relevance in the formation of global citizens, based on the Soka values ​​of wisdom, courage and compassion.
