Abstract

The process of impeachment against the President of the Republic had its origin in the lack of responses to the economic crisis. Its opponents do not advocate the president's innocence, but the need to preserve the democratic institutions from the new process of impeachment wear, so close to the departure of another president in the 1990s. Even if ends justify the means, public opinion has already rejected professional politicians and the "spoils system" and the damage, therefore, has been consummated. The refusal to change such system would surely be much more damaging to the future of democracy.
